UH PLAYER IN FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

HONOLULU - Quarterback SHAWN WITHY-ALLEN led his team, the FAYETTEVILLE GUARD of the National Indoor Football League, to the Championship game.

Shawn previously played with the University of Hawaii WARRIORS for his 5 college years and for the local Hawaii Islanders Arena 2 team for 1 year.

Shawn was the # 1 passing quarterback in the NIFL last season before being injured, and this year he led the team to a 13-1 regular season record, and to wins in the first two playoff games to get into the Championship game.

The final playoff game before the championship was very exciting with suspense up until the final moments as the Guard finally won in overtime, 72 to 70. The team is especially well balanced this year with a strong running back to complement Shawn's passing and running.
But after working hard through the playoffs to get there, the Guard fell short in the NIFL championship game. They just couldn't overcome traveling woes after a week of ups and downs with indecision as to where Indoor Bowl VI was to be played, the Guard arrived at the final site, Billings, Montana, at 4am on gameday and couldn't recover their legs in time to bring home the championship. They were also hurt by the loss of their running back in the third quarter due to knee injury. Shawn played a great game, with 4 touchdowns and 146 yards passing without an interception, throwing for 19-33-0 and also ran 5 times for 18 yards to keep the game close to the end.

Shawn was named OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK for both weeks 15 and 16, and has the highest passing percentage of all full time players in the league, completing 118 of 182 with just 5 interceptions for a 64.8 completion percentage. He scored 43 TD's in the regular season, 37 passing and 6 rushing and threw for 1388 yards. His individual stats are available under the statistics tab on the homepage for http://www.NIFLfootball.com, or at http://www.niflfootball.com/STATS%20-%20html/week%2016/CONFLDRS.HTM.

The Guard are from Fayetteville, North Carolina and a part of the NIFL, which is a 22 team league with a 17 week season plus the playoffs. http://www.NIFLfootball.com
